San Luis Obispo weekend itinerary

Just got home from an amazing long weekend in SLO county. Save this post for your next trip! Contains affiliate links for outfit inspo

This picture was taken somewhere between Cambria and Morro Bay

Day 1

Arrive in SLO and visit downtown. There’s lots of shopping and so many food choices. A poplar choice is Woodstock if you like pizza and beer. There’s also many options for bbq and trip tip. But whatever you do, be sure to visit the famous Bubblegum alley.

If you’re looking for an easy hike. I suggest South Hills open space. It was so beautiful and green this weekend because of all the rain.

For an early dinner check out Madonna Inn. Yes, it’s a tourist trap but it’s worth a visit. And save room for cake. The champagne cake is the most popular and each slice is so big you should definitely share it or save for later.

The main dining room opens for dinner only

Day 2 I suggest driving up to Hearst Castle. This historic ranch home is gorgeous with amazing views. If you get lucky, you might even see some zebras.

After Hearst castle, drive up to San Simeon to watch the elephant seals. There were so many and they are so fun to watch. For kids or adults it’s a very fun experience.

Those are not rocks

Driving back down to SLO, I suggest stopping at Moonstone beach in Cambria. There’s a nice handicap accessible walking path with gorgeous views.

Another stop on the way back to SLO should be Morro Bay. If you get lucky, you might spot otters.

When you get back to SLO, I suggest walking up to Terrace Hill to watch the sunset. Bring a picnic blanket and food with you.

Day 3 wake up early to hike Bishop. It’s not an easy hike so small children might not be able to finish, but the views are amazing.

Lastly, reward yourself with a sweet treat from Scout Coffee. Warning, it will probably be busy with Cal Poly students studying and/or just socializing.

The scout cookie is so good
